Understanding Salt

Salt is an essential nutrient. One that our bodies cannot produce on its own, but cannot function without. That’s why salt is an important part of a healthy diet. But like anything, too much salt can have adverse health affects.

That’s why for the last 15 years, we’ve worked to reduce the amount of salt in our products for your and your family. And today our breakfast cereals are now 50% less salt than they were in 1998.

In fact, according to surveys about our shopping habits, breakfast cereals account for only 2.7% of the total salt in the nation’s supermarket trolley – that’s less salt than you’d find in foods like fresh meat (6.5%) or even milk (5%).

To better put those percentages into perspective, know that a 30g bowl of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies or Kellogg’s Cornflakes contains less than half a gram of salt – which is less than two slices of white bread.

Still concerned? We understand. That’s why we clearly label the front pack of every Kellogg’s product so that you can see what your daily salt intake should be. And so you can make the best choices for the benefit of your family.
