Sponsorship deal for synchronised swimming star Jenna Randall
One of England’s biggest medal hopes for October’s Commonwealth Games has received a massive boost just over a month away from the opening ceremony in Delhi.
Synchronised swimmer Jenna Randall, who won silver at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, has announced today that she has signed a sponsorship deal with cereal brand Kellogg’s.
The news comes just as Randall and her duet partner Olivia Allison make their final push ahead of the Commonwealth Games at the FINA World Cup in China – their last major competition before October’s Games.
Randall, who started the sport at the age of 7 and her partner Olivia Allison definitely fit the grass roots to gold mantra, having taken British Synchronised Swimming out of the wilderness and onto the sporting radar with some impressive results in recent years.
The pair finished fifth two weeks ago at the European Championships, Britain’s best result at the competition in 15 years.
They were also the first Britons to compete in the synchronised swimming competition at an Olympics in 16 years when they debuted at Beijing in 2008.
Together they finished fourth in the duet at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, with Randall’s silver a career highlight.
However, the 21-year-old and her partner, who has been sponsored by Kellogg’s since 2006, believe gold is firmly in their grasp as they look to take on the powerful Australians and Canadians in the pool in Delhi. And while the Commonwealth Games are a huge event for the pair, the ultimate goal is the 2012 London Olympics, where with Kellogg’s backing they hope to claim a historic gold in front of their home crowd.
“I’m delighted to be joining my partner Olivia in Team Kellogg's. This sponsorship will help me greatly in all forms of my training, and will also allow Olivia and I to train more with the best in the world in Russia and Spain,” says Randall.
Kellogg’s has supported British Swimming for around 25 years and is currently in the middle of a three-year £3million sponsorship deal which supports a grassroots to gold medals programme of swimming.
