Employee Engagement
When we talked about our environmental targets we talked about the importance of engaging our employees. This is essential in our manufacturing facilities, but it's important in our offices as well.
We introduced our global GoGreen programme to help encourage everyone who works for us to think greener not just at work, but at home too.
When GoGreen started four years ago we worked with NGOs to get the best advice on where and how we could improve our environmental performance. In the UK we worked with an environmental charity called Groundwork, and one of the first things they did was an audit of our offices to identify what we needed to change.
We improved our recycling facilities so employees can now recycle paper, cans and plastic bottles.
We took away 50% of the waste bins.
We have paper and toner use 'league tables' to see who uses the most.
In 2009 we introduced the GoGreen car share scheme at our head office, giving parking priority to everyone who gets involved. In this short time, about 30 people have already signed up.
We have regular events to encourage employees to think about the way they live and work. These have included: A 'reduce your wasteline' day, a cycle day encouraging employees to bring their bikes to work for a free cycle MOT provide by a local charity and 'A Bag it up for Barnardos' day encouraging employees to bring in unwanted clothes for charity.
