Our UK HQ in Manchester used 864,000 less sheets of paper in 2009 than it did in 2006. At the same time we cut our toner costs by just under 50%, which shows that Going Green can save you money as well as helping to reduce your environmental impact.

UK households throw away £12 billion worth of food every year. That’s around 8.3 million tonnes of food yearly, although there are simple ways to avoid food waste.

Our global operations reduced waste to landfill by 41.5% per tonne since 2005. Our new goal is to further reduce the waste to landfill by 20% by 2015 against a 2009 baseline.

We’ve achieved that by monitoring, measuring and managing our processes, by investing in new technology, and by doing simple things like using energy-saving light bulbs in our Manchester plant.

In the UK We’ve Cut 270,000 Road Miles
Between 2006 and 2009 we reduced our road miles by sharing transport. We managed to save 270,000 transportation miles – that’s like driving 218 times from Aberdeen to Plymouth and back.

In our UK manufacturing sites we have reduced our water use per tonne of food produced by 17% since 2005. We’ve done so by being more efficient, investing in new technology, and introducing simple things like reducing the width of the hoses we use.
