Mrs Linda Stanton, teaching assistant at the school, set up the breakfast club two years ago. Numbers of children coming to the club were low at first so Mrs Stanton decided to introduce an exciting range of activities to entice more pupils – and her plan worked a treat! More than 60% of the school now attends the club.
The children choose a theme each term which have included physical activities like Circus Skills Training, learning activities like the Celebration of being Welsh and performance arts activities like the Breakfast Club’s Got Talent. The current theme is Primary School Musical
“Winning the breakfast club plus award has had a huge impact for us as we now have purchased own equipment and do not have to borrow resources from the school. The breakfast club children held a meeting with staff and decided to buy a digital camera so that we can record our work for our portfolio, outdoor toys to improve our health and fitness, art and craft supplies ensuring that we can continue with our projects, and new indoor toys.
We recently celebrated Remembrance Day and Diwali, the Hindu festival of light and have many more projects in mind.”
“Not only do the children have a healthy breakfast so they have energy for the morning lessons, they also get the chance to learn so many new skills. The club has helped to build their confidence and self-esteem which is so rewarding to see.” Mrs Rhian Jones - Head Teacher
