The application and interview process

The process that we follow will differ slightly depending on the department, level and role you’re applying for.

We use a number of exercises to ensure that we recruit the right people. You may be asked to participate in one or more of the following:

Assessment centres

The assessment centre method is now widely used in the UK for selection and development. It uses a sophisticated rating process designed to minimise as many forms of rater bias as possible and to ensure that each participant is given equal opportunity to demonstrate ability across a range of standardised situations.

Our assessments involve the use of validated psychometric tests and exercises carried out by fully trained assessors. Assessment centres provide a wealth of information about each candidate. This information is integrated in order to provide a fair and objective review of all the information gathered.

Ability tests

These provide an objective way of determining capability in particular skill areas. Verbal and numerical ability tests highlight the speed and accuracy with which an individual can think through the problems that are presented to them. Tests are carefully selected to be relevant to the job in question and are interpreted by qualified facilitators.

Personality questionnaires

These questionnaires assist with the decision making process and enable us to assess the strengths and developmental opportunities of candidates in conjunction with other information.

Interviews

All of our interviews are carried out using a Targeted Selection System that is based on three key processes:

  • Identifying the right selection criteria through a careful review of the job description, sometimes including job analysis.
  • Gathering pertinent candidate information through the use of effective questioning techniques.
  • Evaluating the information gathered to make an accurate selection decision.

Group exercise

These are designed to assess a number of different competencies.

Role play exercises

We’ve a number of exercises that have been designed for specific areas or roles within our business. Through role-play our assessors are able to observe how candidates may deal with everyday situations.
